Renowned for their ability travel great distances without water, the camel became invaluable to Australian (and other) armed forces during the First World War. The Imperial Camel Corps was a mounted unit that used fast riding camels to transport infantrymen across the desert and mountainous terrain of the Western Desert, Sinai and Palestine.
